Acne effects about 90% of all humans at some point in their life. It's an unwanted manifestation of increasing hormone levels, which result in hypertrophy and hyperplasia of oil glands in our skin. The subsequently increased oil production helps bacteria find an easy meal, make colonies and cause inflammation. Inflammation is our body's response to the chemicals made by these bacteria.
Acne can appear on any part of the body. Mostly, it's found on the face, back, chest and arms. Face, by far, is the most common area "treated" for acne.
Antibiotics may be used in your treatment. This helps in rapid reduction of acne infection. But, this is not the cure for acne. Realistically, acne cannot be cured. But, it can be controlled. In this day and age, we have an armory of medicine and laser/light therapies to affect the control we seek.
